That’s where you come in. We are recruiting a Data Architect to report into Head of Data in a newly-created team. They will be accountable for building up the 'value' of our data asset so that our business users, analysts, data scientists, digital product teams and others can drive the maximum impact.
Our mission is to harness this data to attract new readers, and deepen our engagement with them; recruit and retain direct support for the Guardian; and drive value from our advertising and other B2B revenue streams. Put simply, we don't think we can succeed in our ambitions unless we are driving the maximum insight and value from all forms of data.
About the role
- Lead the data architectural elements of how Guardian News & Media (GNM) collects structures and uses our data across the organisation
- Conceive and design the data structures and integrations that enable us to rapidly, efficiently and effectively deliver on GNM’s objectives
- Continuously improve the data strategy, architectural principles, methodologies and frameworks that we adopt
- Define and own the solution architecture document that explains in detail the how, what and when for data across our data estate, including in GNM’s data lake and operational data systems;
- Ensure that data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) is to a high standard across the organisation. In particular, define and own the enterprise wide data modelling standards and ensure they are effectively implemented and adhered to
- Ensure that architectural and modelling standards and designs are understood by the engineering teams. Equip and support these teams so to help ensure that the designs are adopted / complied with
- A wealth of experience creating data architectures and models in large, consumer-orientated organisations;
- Ability to demonstrate a technology agnostic approach for the subject area modelling and logical data modelling
- Creating the models will include optimised models for data marts supporting the organisation’s objectives;
- Proven experience in delivering end to end solutions, high level architecture and associated principles to include data sourcing, integrations/flows, usage, whilst retaining policy compliance;
- Ability to design and model a modern data platform and be able to think about how data is used and delivers value to the business;
- Extensive experience of successfully and confidently engaging with senior stakeholders and being able to translate the key business drivers and requirements into Data Models and Solution Design;
- Strong communication skills, able to present complex ideas simply and clearly to a variety of colleagues and clients, and author clear and succinct memos and documents;
- Proven record in creating low level solution designs aligned with the high-level architecture and principles;
- Experience of analytics, data science and BI approaches and technologies;
- A broad understanding of data environments, BI stacks, and ETL tools;
- A preference for working in a fast-paced, matrix, consumer-focused organisation, for creating structure, and artfully navigating ambiguity and complex inter-organisational dynamics
